A ST Helens brass band is celebrating after scooping a £10,000 on its 40th birthday.
St Helens Concert Band won the Heritage Lottery Fund grant to pay for a scheme researching and recording its history.
Project leader Keith Owens said: “St Helens Concert Band has played a big part in the life of many St Helens musicians - with over 100 St Helens youngsters passing through the band during its history.
“But there are few people still alive who were involved at the early stages and if their oral history is not preserved now - it will be lost forever.”
The project will focus on the history of the band since its formation in 1972.
