St Helens golden girl Kiera Weather is to perform at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on event, it has been announced today.
Kiera, 18, from Clock Face, will be the chief supporting act for this year’s show in Victoria Square, headlined by former Girls Aloud star, Nadine Coyle, at this Saturday’s glittering bash.
Council leader Barrie Grunewald said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to include Kiera, who did the town so proud on the X Factor, on this year’s bill and I know she will go down a treat with the thousands of people that are expected to attend.
“This year’s Christmas lights switch on promises to be a cracker, with lots of fantastic music acts on offer, as well as great, local guest stars giving question and answer sessions.
“So get down to Victoria Square and celebrate the countdown to Christmas in style, with lots of fun to be had for all the family to enjoy.”
This year’s show, in association with Radio City and supported by O2, will also see X Factor Finalists, Alien Uncovered, Britain’s Got Talent finalists Entity Allstars - along with singer-songwriter Calum Scott perform on the bill – and will feature appearances from Emmerdale's TV star and Inside Soap best actor winner, Michael Parr (Ross Barton); St Helens Rugby League stars Alex Walmsley and Tommy Makinson; Tyrers Department Store Father Christmas, and local boxing world title challenger, Martin Murray will prove to be a real knock-out hit with fans as he drops by before his date with destiny in Hanover on November 21, where he will take on Germany’s Arthur Abraham for the WBO super-middleweight title.
The Ambition Band will kick the event off and will feature performances from the very best of local & regional talent including: Pride of St Helens Musician of the Year, Lydia Higham; Aimee Critchly; Daisy Hatton: Eclectica; St Teresa Primary School Choir; Garswood Primary School Choir; Charlotte Shepherd; Phoenix Youth Theatre; Harrison Langham; Rainhill High School Singers - and St Helens’ very own Stillia.

Earlier that day, the hunt will be on for St Helens Champion Elf for 2015.
The town’s Church Square Shopping Centre is launching a special festive event to find the best little elf.
From 11am to 3pm youngsters can come along in their own elf outfit, or be transformed at an elf station in the centre’s St Mary’s Arcade – and it’s all free.
A professional photographer will take the children’s photos, and these will be uploaded to Church Square Shopping Centre’s Facebook page on November 16, where shoppers can vote for their favourite elf until November 20.
Whoever gets the most likes will win a Christmas stocking of goodies from stores at the centre – plus the title of St Helens Champion Elf 2015.
Meanwhile, BA (Hons) Dance students from Edge Hill University will take part in a range of performances set across different locations in St Helens town centre throughout the day, including The World of Glass, Friends Park, St Helens Central Station and throughout Church Street.
The Christmas events programme continues on Saturday 28 November with the arrival of Tyrers Father Christmas at their stunning Grotto in their department store. On Saturday 5 December the hugely popular Santa Dash (organised by the Steve Prescott Foundation and Willowbrook Hospice) returns to the town centre plus St Mary’s Market will feature their Christmas Lights Switch On. Real reindeer arrive in Church Square on Saturday, December 12.
