Plans to create a new Home Bargains store in Prescot could create 25 jobs.

TJ Morris, the family-run company which trades as Home Bargains, has submitted plans for a new store on Manchester Road - which would see the retention of 45 jobs and create 25 additional jobs.

The plans, which have been submitted to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council jointly with the landowner, Prescot Business Park Limited, could see the creation of a larger, modern store complete with garden centre.

TJ Morris hope to invest £5m in Prescot via the scheme, which would also deliver a new customer car park of more than 120 spaces.

Joe Morris, operations director at TJ Morris, said: “We’re very pleased to announce the submission of our plans for a new Home Bargains store in Prescot. We’ve been trading in Prescot since 1989 and we want to create a store which will last for another 25 years.

“The feedback from Prescot residents has been hugely encouraging and we’re now hoping for a positive decision from the council.”

Home Bargains’ lease on its unit in Prescot Shopping Centre expires this year.

A spokesman said the “poor prominence” at the existing store made a lease renewal “commercially very unattractive”.
