A burglar who confronted a widow and threatened her in her own home has been jailed.

Lee Todd, 25, of Bag Lane, Atherton, committed an aggravated burglary in Newton-le-Willows on September 1.

He pleaded guilty to robbery before Liverpool Crown Court this week and was jailed for seven years.

DC Roy Waller said: “To be confronted and threatened by someone in your own home is an extremely alarming and distressing experience that the victim will have to live with for the rest of her life. I hope this sentence will, in some way, bring closure and some comfort to the victim.

“I would like to reassure the community that incidents like this are thankfully still very rare in this area. Today’s outcome should serve as a warning to others.”
