She will help deliver training for up to 25 young people and adults who are currently living in an SOS Children’s Village.
They will be taught how to cut, colour and style hair, after which they will be offered further training or employment opportunities with local salons.
Jacqui said: "I was thrilled to be selected for the Shaping Futures Vietnam team. I opened my first salon in Rainford, Merseyside, 14 years ago and I am so passionate about my work. I am very fortunate, I love everything about my job, I love nothing more than to put hair up – it’s a passion.
"I am so excited to be able to enable young people from different backgrounds to have the opportunity to progress onto greater things.
"I have raised funds for many charities over the last few years doing Tough Mudder on two occasions for N.A.S.S and a local children’s charity, 10K races, climbed Ben Nevis and last year did a 29-mile hike for Macmillan cancer. I feel this is an amazing opportunity to take a slightly different direction & share my passion for progression with those in less fortunate positions than myself.”
Shaping Futures has been running since 2009, and this is the first year the UK team will be visiting Vietnam, following many successful years partnering with SOS Children’s Villages in India.
Every young person who takes part in Shaping Futures has experienced trauma and poverty; but thanks to this initiative they are given the skills to build a new, safe life for themselves.
Jacqui’s business entitled ‘J Lowes Hair & Beauty’ has salons located in Rainford, St Helens and Billinge.
Each volunteer has been asked to fundraise £1500 for the SOS Children’s Villages charity and the additional money needed to cover their expenses.
Jacqui is planning many fundraising events including coffee and cake mornings, raffles, 'bid for a haircut' days, curry evenings and much more.
However, her biggest fundraising challenge will be the ‘Shaping Futures Triple S Challenge’ named by Jacqui and consisting of Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Skiddaw – keep an eye on her Instagram account for updates - @hair_byjlowe and Facebook page J Lowes Hair Salon.
Kay Brady, of Schwarzkopf Professional, said “It’s because of the passion, dedication and spirit of people like Jacqui that we are able to run Shaping Futures, and offer young people a chance of a new life.
“This programme is incredibly important and over the past nine years, we’ve helped hundreds of youngsters from the SOS Children’s Villages fulfil their dreams and aspirations. We are incredibly proud of all the people involved in the initiative, but especially the young people who fight every day to create their own futures; they are inspirations to us all.”
