A ST Helens school has won a top education prize.

St Cuthbert’s Catholic Community College for Business and Enterprise in St Helens was awarded the inaugural National Church School Award.

St Cuthbert’s had already won the North West Regional title for the significant difference they have made to local and global communities.

A spokesman for the school said: “The school has an excellent record and are local leaders on Fairtrade.

“Pupils and staff went to Westminster Cathedral Hall in London to receive this regional award.

“We are delighted to be chosen out of the six regional winners to take the national title.”

The awards ceremony was hosted by Andy Akinwolere of Blue Peter and the award was presented by Lord Hill, Schools Minister.
