Looking for a different kind of gourmet treat?
It may not be in the place you might expect it.
Fast food restaurant McDonald’s has joined the growing trend of providing upmarket nosh....with a new range of gourmet burgers – The Signature Collection.
The company says it has been created by chefs with Michelin star experience and the range is available for hungry customers to try at McDonald’s in St Helens, as part of a pilot project.
As part of the launch, our reporter was invited into a branch of McDonalds to not only try the burgers but to go behind the scenes to see how they’re made.
The three burgers, including The Classic, The BBQ and The Spicy, priced around £7, are for those who want an “up-market burger” experience, says McDonald’s.
Nigel Dunnington, local franchisee said: “We’ve had a fantastic reaction from our customers.”
He said: “The way they look and the way they’re presented is very sophisticated and people who have been to burger bars and restaurant across the country have said this is one of the best burgers they’ve tasted.”
But of course, the proof of the pudding is in the eating ... so what was the verdict?
After trying all three of the burgers, yes, all three, I can agree this is definitely something McDonald’s have not done before - and not what I would have expected.
Between the packaging, the size and the taste, I would again agree with Nigel that this is a much more sophisticated taste than you would expect from a McDonald’s burger.
Without the iconic ‘M’ logo you could easily see them being served in prestigious burger joints across the country.
There’s a definitely jump in quality to the usual Big Mac and it’s a welcome change.
