A St Helens man failed to pay a £80 fixed penalty notice for allowing his dog to foul in the street and ended up being hit with £600 in fines and court costs.

Terry Hazeldine, of Fleet Lane, Parr, was spotted by council officials walking off without clearing up after his pet last year. He gave officials a false address but was tracked down and fined.

When he failed to settle he was summonsed to court last week but did not show. JPs at St Helens Magistrates’ Court ordered him to pay £114 in court costs, plus £350 in fines. A collection order was also made as a precaution.
