Drunken man on gas tower

THIS is the terrifying moment a man clambered up to the top of a gas tower – as part of a drunken prank.

Police were called to Jackson Street in Fingerpost last Wednesday (September 1) after worried residents spotted the man roaming around the walkway around the top of the tower.

Officers feared a suicide attempt but it quickly emerged the man had been drinking drunk and had climbed up the 100ft tower as a drunken jape.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said that officers “were on the verge of closing nearby roads,” but after half an hour he came down through his own accord.

The 20-year-old was arrested for breach of peace but not charged.

Instead he was given an on-the-spot fine for being drunk and disorderly.

These photos - sent in by a reader - show the man’s escapades and eventual surrender.
