Two people were hospitalised following an early hours crash in which a car collided with a tree.

Emergency crews were called to the East Lancs - near the junction with Blindfoot Road - shortly after 3am last Thursday (January 23).

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to remove the doors of the vehicle and then hydraulic rams and spreaders to eased the vehicle parts away from the male driver - who was given painkillers intravenously by the paramedics at the scene.

Firefighters remained at the scene until shortly before 5am.
