Hundreds of people flocked to Sutton Manor in glorious sunshine on Sunday (May 31) to attend the public opening of the Dream statue.

The imposing 20m-high sculpture - dubbed St Helens' answer to the Angel of the North - was officially opened following a traditional Whit Walk at the former colliery site.

The striking pre-cast concrete sculpture, which weighs in at more than 370 tonnes, portrays the image of a girl with her eyes closed and overlooks the busy M62 motorway.

Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, who designed Dream, was among those who attended the launch.
