TORRENTIAL downpours led to the closure of a St Helens road yesterday.
Islands Brow was shut between the junctions of Hinckley Road and Woodlands Road due to flooding.
St Helens Council also monitored water levels along the Sankey Canal at both Islands Brow and College Street, amid fears of further flooding.
Residents of Hinckley Road told how the wooded area of the Burgies - at the back of their houses - had flooded during heavy rain on Monday evening (November 26).
One resident said: “We’ve had a few floods around here in the past. The Burgies always seems to get hit and the area underneath the bridge up the road has flooded too.”
It’s not the first time the area has been hit by flooding this year.
In September, borough-wide flash floods caused Islands Brow to close, along with College Street, Peasley Cross Lane, Burrows Lane and Watery Lane.
Ten people also had to be evacuated from their homes on inflatable rafts after the Sankey Canal burst its banks.
