A RENOWNED St Helens family firm has won a top prize praising its piccalilli!

Bartons Pickles triumphed over hundreds of other food producers nationwide in a contest organised by supermarket Tesco.

The Lascelle Street-based company’s tasty treats - based on recipes handed down from generation to generation - were voted the region’s best.

Company director Joanna Jenner said: “We’re delighted that local Tesco customers voted for our pickles as their favourite local products. Our customers have taken the time to vote for us which shows we’re really special to them. We’re really proud of our range of pickles so it’s great to have them recognised by Tesco.

“Tesco have been such a support to us over the last ten years, allowing us to grow at a rate that suits us.

“We started supplying our Piccalilli to our local Tesco store in Prescot ten years ago and now a range of our pickles are stocked at 60 Tesco stores across the North West.”

Bartons Pickles was found in St Helens in 1905.
