Council engineers say an abandoned pub in St Helens which has been torched twice by arsonists over recent weeks remains structurally sound.

Crews were last called to the Green Dragon on Gartons Lane at around 12.30pm on May 14.

Five fire engines attended, with the ground and first floor being engulfed in flames.

Crews had to gain access through the ground-floor security shutter.

The road was closed by police while firefighters battled the flames.

It had lead to fears the building would be condemned but council officials say as it remains structurally sound it is down to the building’s owners to decide whether to demolish the building.
