A ST Helens golfer shocked the sporting world by finishing runner-up in one of the Majors.
Billinge-born David Lynn (left) put in a career best performance to claim second place in the US PGA Championship at the weekend.
The stunning finish also ensures that 38-year-old Lynn will now play at next year’s Masters at the Augusta National course in Georgia.
Shortly after finishing what was his first ever tournament in the US, Lynn told reporters: “To come and perform the way I have this week in a major is very special and a great achievement. It has not sunk in properly yet to be honest.”
The Stoke-based European Tour regular has only notched one career win, but finished with a five under score of 283 to finish eight shots behind Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy but three ahead of Tiger Woods.
Lynn, whose family live in Springfield, Wigan, earned $865,000 in the space of just four days.
And it has also catapulted him into the reckoning for Europe’s Ryder Cup team, with just two weeks before captain Jose Maria Olazabal names his side.
