IT’S not every day a “thank you” letter is received from HRH the Duchess of Cambridge.

No wonder then that cubs in Newton-le-Willows were stunned to receive a letter from Buckingham Palace after making a string of colourful cards to welcome HRH Prince William’s wife to the scouting family.

The Duchess recently became a VIP volunteer at a cub pack in North Wales, near where she lives.

And, just a couple of weeks after sending off their glitter-covered welcome cards, the youngsters received a special “thank you” card as well as a photograph of the Duchess and Prince William to display proudly at their headquarters.

Ten-year-old cub, Andrew Pickstone, said: “It’s cool to receive this letter, because Royal people don’t normally join an organisation like scouting. The Duchess will be helping cubs like me have a great time, just like our leaders do.”

St Helens Scouts’ district commissioner, Christine Williams, added: “The Duchess has an incredibly busy life and we’re grateful to her for getting in touch. Thanks to scouting’s commitment to allow adults to volunteer their time on a flexible basis, it is easier for adults who volunteer with us to give as much or as little as they are able.

“If you are interested in volunteering to work with our young people, give me a call any evening on 01744 750702.”
