Police hunt man with "strong Wigan accent" and "fat face" who followed two young girls

Police are hunting a man with a Wigan accent who followed two young girls.

Said to have been driving a "dirty and old style" van, he was reported to have tracked the pair on Monday evening.

The incident has led to police urging anyone with information about the man - or the vehicle he was driving - to come forward.

The girls were on Wargrave Road in Newton-le-Willows when they were approached by a man in a Ford transit van.

He then followed them through the surrounding streets before driving away.

The incident, which Merseyside Police is treating as suspicious, took place between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

Appealing for information, the force said: "On Monday, May 20 between the hours of 6.30pm and 7.30pm a vehicle described only as a dirty and old-style White Ford transit van has approached two young females on Wargrave Road, Newton-le-Willows .

"The driver is described as a white male, approximately 20 years old, fat face with a ginger beard, wearing a black baseball cap, black top and spoke with a strong Wigan accent.

"The male has followed the females through several streets before making off out of the immediate area.
