Court told woman claimed child benefits after her sons were taken into care

A woman from St Helens continuing claiming child benefits for two years after her young sons were taken into care, a court has been told.

The 34-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before magistrates in St Helens to deny the charge.

It is alleged she continued to claim child tax credits between June 2012 and May 2014.

The case, which was brought by the Department of Work and Pension, was adjourned until January.
