LAST night’s full council meeting at St Helens Town Hall lasted less than 15 minutes.

In a staggeringly short meeting, chaired by Mayor of St Helens Andy Bowden, there was next to no debate - despite all of the borough’s councillors being summoned to the council chamber for 6.15pm.

A series of motions were put forward and agreed by all sides of the chamber.

Coun Bowden also paid tribute to all the people from St Helens who were honoured in HM The Queen’s Birthday Honours List - including his Labour colleague Tom Hargreaves.

One of the only questions posed was by a member of the public, Dr Roos, who queried why council meetings were not filmed.

Labour councillor Anthony Johnson replied that there were “no plans to amend the current position” and added that there was no statutory requirement for councils to do so.
