TWO despicable conmen stole cash from a 91-year-old man after telling him they were from the water board.

At about 11.30am on November 5 a man knocked on the door of an address on Billington Avenue, Newton-le-Willows. He said he was from the water board and needed to check the water pressure.

Once inside, the crook asked the pensioner to check something under the sink while he, and another man, stole cash from an upstairs bedroom.

The first man is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, with a slim build and short dark hair. Aged between 40 and 50, he was wearing a long sleeved dark jumper and dark trousers and had a local accent.

The second man was slightly taller, with a large build and aged in his late 30s or early 40s. He was wearing a short grey coat and dark grey trousers.

DC John Black said: “It is despicable that these men have targeted a vulnerable member of society in this way. These men were brazen in their approach.”

Witnesses can call police on 0151 777 6843 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
