Staff at St Helens College received a call at 10.15am today (April 1) to inform them of “an explosive device” at its Technology Campus.

All staff, students and visitors were subsequently evacuated from both the town centre and Pocket Nook sites as a precaution and the police were called.

The sites were safely reopened before midday and police are now treating the incident as a suspected hoax.

A college spokeswoman said: “St Helens College takes all threats of this nature very seriously and co-operated fully with Merseyside Police.”
