St Helens College has been named as the best performing further education centre in Merseyside in newly-released league tables.

The poll, published by the Department of Education, measures the performance of students aged 16 to 18 who are in the final year of their studies of any programme excluding A-levels.

St Helens tops the chart for the highest average scores for students and the best value added score.

College bosses say the results demonstrate how much students improve academically during their time at the college

Dr Jette Burford, college principal, said: “Topping this league table is the culmination of a lot of hard work and effort the college has made over the past two years in order to improve all aspects of our performance. We have set ourselves extremely high standards and this is reflected in the excellent scores we have achieved.”
