A college in St Helens is celebrating after being awarded accreditation for two major courses.

St Helens College has received a significant stamp of approval to deliver Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) courses in logistics.

The news comes as the College prepares to launch a brand new £3m Logistics Academy in September in partnership with Knowsley Community College, a project approved last month by the Liverpool City Region’s growth deal fund.

Mike Kelly, head of business and professional studies at University Centre St Helens said: “I am extremely pleased that we have become a Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) approved centre. We are one of only a handful of education institutions in the Northwest offering CILT approved qualifications. The logistics sector is currently suffering a skills shortage so these new courses will also allow us to meet employers’ needs in line with the demands from new Liverpool City Region Superport.”

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK – CILT (UK) - is the independent professional body for individuals associated with logistics, supply chains and all transport throughout their careers.

The new logistics qualifications includes short taster courses in warehousing and logistics for those considering a career in this growing industry.

It will include level 1 qualifications that are designed to give people an insight into the logistics sector, level 2 and 3 certificates in logistics and transport and a higher level 5 diploma in logistics and transport that will be delivered at University Centre St Helens.

Meanwhile, the college has also gained accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

The institution was awarded with an additional seal of approval from the accounting profession, making University Centre St Helens just one of a handful of educational institutions in the North West which is offering Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualifications.

CIMA is the world’s largest and leading professional body of management accountants, working at the heart of business. A CIMA qualification offers a dynamic mix of practical and strategic subjects designed to give the cutting edge in financial management. This accreditation now means students can continue their accounting studies at University Centre St Helens to an even higher level.

To celebrate the approval from CIMA, University Centre St Helens will be holding a special launch event during University Centre St Helens’ open evening on Wednesday January 20 from 5.00pm – 7.00pm.
