Staff and students at St Helens College have been allowed back on site following a bomb scare.

A force spokesman confirmed this morning that officers were dealing with “a security alert”.

Social media users tweeted that the alert was a bomb scare.

One student posted: “Bomb scare at St Helens construction college and we have all been evacuated.”

The police spokesman said: “As a precautionary measure, the buildings were evacuated and officers carried out inquiries at the scene.”

Staff and students were allowed to return to the site shortly before midday.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
