A NEWTON pharmacy worker has celebrated 40 years working in the same store.
Christine Barlow has worked at Lloydspharmacy in Legh Street, Newton-le-Willows, since she was 18.
Bosses at the pharmaceutical giant were quick to mark Mrs Barlow’s incredible achievement.
She said: “Before working at the pharmacy I worked for a general retailer and I decided I wanted a change.
As soon as I switched to pharmacy all those years back I knew it was the right choice for me.
I was then mainly responsible for the retail side of the pharmacy and my role has grown over the years to include healthcare and pharmacy-related duties and now I am a trained dispenser.
You never stop learning when you work in a pharmacy! My job satisfaction comes from the fact that the work we do in the pharmacy really can make a difference to the health of the local residents.
“I love this job and I find it very rewarding. The people in the community really appreciate the hard work we all put in at the pharmacy.
“Being originally from the local area, I have really got to know the regular customers and I have watched them grow up around me. Some of the children whose parents I used to serve are now parents themselves!”
Michael Henry, Lloydspharmacy regional director for the north, added: “It’s a fantastic privilege to be able to celebrate such a milestone with Christine.
“From the feedback from customers it is clear that she really has served the local community superbly well over the last forty years.”
