Chemical plant worker’s fall terror

A ST Helens man was injured when a metal gantry he was walking on collapsed five storeys high.

The man escaped serious injury after landing on scaffolding below at the Tato chemical plant in Northwich, Cheshire.

The incident, which took place in November 2010 only came to light after the health and safety executive fined the company £100,000 for a series of breaches.

Inspectors also discovered one worker suffered severe burns and several employees at the factory were put at risk by high levels of carbon monoxide.
