A restaurant is calling on mums to put themselves first this half term.
The Toby Carvery Waterside in St Helens is offering mums a complimentary pudding for every compliment they make to fellow mums in an initiative called “pud mum first”..
The initiative follows the revelation that St Helens mums believe themselves to be less important than their children and partner according to a UK wide study of 1,000 mums commissioned by Toby Carvery.
It revealed the majority of mums put themselves third in the pecking order, with only 5 per cent believing they are the most significant family member.
The carvery restaurant on on East Lancashire Road is asking mothers to pay each other a compliment by visiting the restaurant’s Facebook page.
In return they will both receive a free pudding to enjoy together, taking some well-deserved time off.
All mums involved will then be automatically entered into a free prize draw for the chance to win a luxury spa day.
Susan Walbancke, general manager at Toby Carvery Waterside, said; “We recognise that mums have a lot to juggle to keep the family balanced, so it’s no wonder more than half are feeling worn out.
“65 per cent of mums we spoke to said they would like greater recognition for their efforts and we want to show our appreciation by bringing mums together to show their support for one another.”
Despite the low ranking St Helens mums give themselves, the results of the survey suggest that a mother’s work is never done, with a long list of chores to do each night including; sorting the family dinner, 77 per cent, helping with homework, 36 per cent, and washing clothes, 43 per cent.
With a quarter of mums polled saying that they get no help from their partners, it is no wonder 57 per cent of them have admitted to being close to breaking point.
