Residents in parts of St Helens were left without running water for several hours following a burst water pipe.
The pipe, at United Utilities’ pumping station in Hewitts Lane, Knowsley, was believed to have burst at around 11.30am on Sunday, affecting water supply and pressure at homes across a wide area of St Helens, including the postcodes WA9, WA10 and L34.
The problem was fixed by engineers, with normal water supply by 4pm on Sunday.
A spokesman for United Utilities said: “We had to identify what the problem was and we started to re-route the water supplies from other parts of network at 1pm.
“Over the course of the afternoon, water pressure started to build back up again.
“Everyone should have had running water again by about 4pm on Sunday.”
Works to fix the burst pipe carried on throughout the evening and were finished by 9pm on Sunday.
