BUILDERS working on a leisure centre renovation lost four days of work after they were targeted by mindless stone-throwing thugs.
Workers for Paragon Construction were forced to down tools at the Broadway Leisure Centre site at the end of last month when a gang of youths started launching mud and stones at them.
Eye-witnesses told the Reporter at the time how the thugs appeared to be targeting both the workmen and their vehicles.
Amid safety fears they then lost four days of work before meetings between Paragon, St Helens Council and the police enabled them to re-start.
A council spokesman confirmed that the £300,000 refurbishment work was now continuing as normal.
The majority of funding for the project was secured following a successful joint bid by St Helens Council and Sutton Badminton Club for funding of £250,000 from Badminton England.
All being well, the leisure centre is scheduled to re-open next month.
