BREAKING NEWS: Firefighters tackle huge nursery blaze

FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a blaze at a disused nursery school in St Helens.

Crews from Whiston and Newton-le-Willows were called to the old Daisy Bank day nursery on Glover Street, off Borough Road, shortly before 2pm.

Worried residents reported seeing large plumes of black smoke billowing out of the top of the building.

A fire service spokeswoman confirmed that crews were were currently tackling a fire at the 20mx60m brick building, but said the extent of damage caused by the blaze would not be known for several hours.

At the same time, crews from Parr Stocks were called to a false fire alarm at the Millennium Centre in Corporation Street.
