AN 11-year-old boy is fighting for his life following a serious road traffic collision in St Helens on Sunday evening (December 11).
Emergency crews were called to Prescot Road, near to the junction with Dunriding Lane, at about 6pm after two 11-year-olds - one boy and one girl - were struck by a blue BMW as it headed out of St Helens.
Paramedics treated both victims at scene before taking them to hospital.
The girl’s condition is not life-threatening however the boy’s condition is described as critical and was transferred to Alder Hey Childrens Hospital for surgery.
The driver of the BMW, a 24-year-old local man, stopped at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit and under the influence of drugs.
The road was cordoned off to allow road traffic collision investigators to carry out a forensic examination of the scene.
