Bosses at a St Helens charity have set themselves an ambitious target of doubling the organisation’s volunteer numbers.
St Helens Mind already has 50 volunteers but is on the look out for 50 more.
Gill Ellison, manager at the local mental health charity, said: “We urgently need volunteers and the roles may surprise people.
“Our Volunteer Befrienders spend a couple of hours a week with someone to help them enjoy life again, going for a walk and a chat, maybe joining a class or browsing the shops.
“Group volunteers may join in a quiz or games, make tea and coffee and ensure people are feeling welcome.”
Independent research shows that St Helens Mind volunteers have feel an increased sense of purpose, usefulness, pride and achievement since undertaking voluntary work which has been as a result of immense support from the organisation.
Gill added: “You will be reimbursed expenses, offered an induction and ongoing support. If you are aged 18 plus, looking to give something back, make a massive difference to someone’s wellbeing or would like to further your skills and experience we would love to hear from you.”
