CHRISTMAS shoppers are being warned to be on their guard after Knowsley’s trading standards officers seized hundreds of counterfeit toys.
Following a series of operations across the borough, the imitation toys and games have now been removed from sale.
The haul included fake Toy Story, Hello Kitty, Ben 10 and In the Night Garden’toys, along with Monopoly games and Santa Claus earmuffs.
Trading Standards officers are now investigating the retailers and suppliers of the goods to determine the appropriate enforcement action.
Councillor Ken keith, Knowsley Council’s cabinet member for corporate and customer services, said: “It’s good news for shoppers that these counterfeit toys and games have been taken off the shelves.
“There is never any guarantee about the quality or – more importantly – the safety of counterfeit goods such as these. Nobody wants to see their child’s Christmas ruined by a poor quality toy breaking easily or, even worse, hurting them.
“I’d encourage all Christmas shoppers to buy from reputable traders and check that the goods you are buying have the CE mark, appropriate warnings and the name and address of the manufacturer.”
