Firefighters discovered the body of an elderly man after being called to a house blaze.
Crews were called to a house on Holford Way, Newton-le-Willows, shortly before 8.45pm on Sunday (December 14).
They discovered the body of an elderly man in one of the rooms on the ground floor.
Firefighters used two hoses to tackle the blaze and extinguished the flames in less than an hour.
They are set to carry out a day-long fire safety campaing in the area tomorrow (Thursday, December 18).
Group manager Dean Bolton said: “Firefighters were quickly on scene and extinguished a fire in a ground floor room. Sadly, the body of an elderly man was found by firefighters inside the property.
“An investigation is taking place into the cause of the fire and this is ongoing.”
Early indications suggest that the cause of the fire was not suspicious.
A similar incident last month also cost a pensioner his life in a ferocious house fire.
Crews were called to a property on Samuel Street - which had no smoke alarms - shortly before 11.30pm on Friday, November 21.
Tragically, the body of an 88-year-old man was found inside. An inquest into the man’s death is now set to be held to establish the exact cause of death.
The fire was suspected to have been sparked accidentally.
