A Billinge man was caught behind the wheel while almost twice over the drink-drive limit.
Matthew Joseph Murray was stopped in a white BMW by police in Brampton Court, St Helens, on December 12.
The 31-year-old failed a breath test.
He was found to have 64 microgramme of alcohol in 100 milliltres of breath.
The legal limit is 35.
Murray, of Maple Close, admitted the offence when he appeared before magistrates in St Helens.
He was ordered to serve a three year driving ban, pay £85 court costs and fined £285.
