A St Helens man appeared before St Helens Magistrates’ Court accused of two benefit fraud offences.

Russell Cook, 43, of Central Street, St Helens, pleaded guilty to both offences relating to him failing to promptly notify St Helens Council of a

change in his circumstances that he knew would affect his Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit - and failed to declare an increase in his earnings resulting in an overpayment of benefit totalling £8458.83.

Cook was issued a £400 fine and ordered to pay legal costs of £80.
