THE body of a St Helens grandfather who passed away in Thailand following a massive double stroke has finally been returned to his family.
Phillip Blakemore, 76, (pictured with daughter Pauline Greene) who worked for the Reporter as a compositor in the 1970s, died last month after fighting for his life in Pattaya Hospital for seven weeks.
But a mistake on a health insurance form invalidated an insurance policy and left his family struggling to pay the spiralling hospital fees and the cost of flying him home.
His son-in-law, Phil Greene, said: “The hospital finally agreed to repatriate him out of the £26,000 we sent over and he was flown in to Manchester Airport on Saturday evening.”
Mr Blakemore’s funeral is set to take place in Lytham next Tuesday (March 15).
