Theatre bosses in St Helens have welcomed the famed Vienna Festival Ballet back to the borough next Sunday.

The company will present the magical story of the original living doll, Coppélia, at the St Helens Theatre Royal.

Coppélia is a lively production infused with old world charm which appeals to audiences of all ages with its captivating story of an eccentric toymaker and his beloved doll.

The colourful costumes, lively characters and beautiful music from Delibes all combine to create a magical and comical classic that warms and entertains from start to finish. Coppélia is guaranteed to lift the hearts of all the family.

What’s at the heart of a woman? Eccentric toymaker Dr Coppélius wants to know, and he’s planning to bring his mechanical doll, Coppélia, to life – he thinks he just needs the right spell.

When Dr Coppélius leaves Coppélia on his workshop balcony, she soon causes quite a stir in the village, particularly in the heart of red-blooded young lover Franz, and the jealous mind of his real-life fiancée, Swanilda – who mistakes the mannequin for a crying, talking, sleeping, walking rival.

With a wild mix of abracadabra, and some mischievous maidens, comic chaos is riotously unleashed when humans and mechanical dolls collide in Dr Coppélius’s spooky toyshop.

Vienna Festival Ballet’s dazzling adaptation of the original E.T.A. Hoffmann tale is an ever-popular celebration of love, and with a sparkling score, breathtaking choreography and beautiful storytelling, Coppélia promises to delight audiences of all ages.
