A NEWLY-qualified Royal Navy chef is set to test his skills at the armed forces’ annual culinary contest.
Seventeen-year-old Tomas Griffiths, of St Helens, only completed his 26-week defence chefs course at the Defence Maritime Logistics School (DMLS), at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall, last week.
But he will be among the Royal Navy team this week when they compete against army and RAF counterparts at Sandown Park Racecourse in Surrey.
The budding submariner will be taking part in the open ethnic dish category, serving curried cod, and has just 30 minutes to prepare, cook and present two plated portions of his chosen dish.
He said: “I intend to take the competition as it comes. Just being chosen to represent the Royal Navy at this stage of my career is good enough for me!”
