REBECCA Lake is a young lady with stars in her eyes and now her big dream is about to come true.
The glamorous 18-year-old from Haydock (pictured) is appearing in the hit musical Fame at Manchester Opera House.
Currently studying in Blackpool at Blackpool and Fylde College, Rebecca admits she was over the moon when, following tough auditions, she won the part of Serena in the Opera House’s Stage Experience 2011 which gives stage-struck youngsters to appear on the professional stage in Fame.
Rebecca, who went to Pendleton College, says she has her heart set on a career in the professional theatre.
Last year, the construction worker’s daughter was given a chance to dance with English National Ballet in London, and her teachers were so impressed, they put her forward to represent her country in Shanghai.
“I was wonderful” said Rebecca. “A totally new experience which left me breathless with delight. And I was lucky enough to be presented to Prince Andrew which was the best moment of my life. It was all part of promoting this country.”
Rebecca, will appear in four performances of Fame at Manchester Opera House from August 11 to 13, added: “I’ve appeared on the professional stage just once before. It was last year when I played the part of Miss Sarah Brown in a production of Guys and Dolls. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
“Now I have three years study ahead of me then I want to do a post graduate course at drama school. I don’t come from a theatrical family, but my parents are really enthusiastic that I should follow my dream for a future in musical theatre and acting, of course.
“In fact, the part of Serena in Fame is more dialogue than song, so I’m really having to work hard learning lines.
“I’m quite nervous, but also really excited at the same time.”
