OPERA lovers from St Helens are in for a rare treat for, instead of having to travel to Liverpool or Manchester, they can enjoy the lilting delights of Carmen on their own doorstep.
This is thanks to Crosby-based company Opera Viva, who will perform Georges Bizet’s musical masterpiece at St Julie’s parish hall on Howards Lane, Eccleston, on Saturday, June 15, from 7.30pm.
It will be conducted by well-known musical director John Flood.
The story-line of Carmen centres on a gypsy girl working in a cigarette factory who falls in love.
Many opera buffs have delighted in the aria Habanera and the Toreadors song from arguably one of the most popular operas ever written.
Tickets cost £12 and £10 and are available from 0151 920 2093.
