A ST Helens College student is celebrating after winning a regional education award.
Neil Morris was awarded the British Sign Language Signature North West Learner of the Year Award and has been shortlisted for the national awards.
Neil, who learned to sign at an early age to communicate with his mum and brother, who are both deaf, said: “It was a nice surprise to be nominated for the award and I was extremely proud to win the regional learner of the year award.
“I have enjoyed studying at St Helens College and the support from my tutor has been fantastic. Sign language is an important communication tool and hopefully more people will develop the skills.”
Neil is also a carer for his mum.
