Talented youngsters from St Helens are encouraging wannabe T-Birds and Pink Ladies to dust off their leather jackets, pull on their bobby socks and take a trip back to the fabulous 1950s.

For three Summer Nights on the 25-27 of August, you will be able to be transported back to Rydell High for the ‘Original High School Musical.’

Featuring all of those infamous and catchy songs that you can’t help but love, we guarantee you will be hand-jiving in the aisles, craving a Twinky and singing along to We’ll Always Be Together! The musical is presented by Royal T Drama Academy (more commonly known as RTDA) which was formed way back in 1998 and has been putting on incredible sell-out spectaculars ever since, popular with the young and old alike.

The young people who attend RTDA say it’s not just a drama academy, it’s more like a family and that’s why RTDA attracts such a big crowd of participants and audience members!

Alicia Stroud who plays Frenchy explains: “I haven’t been at RTDA as long as some of the other cast members but they treat everyone like a family and that’s what makes the shows so special for the cast and the audience and I think that’s why people keep coming back every year.”

RTDA’s productions range from musicals to Shakespeare and recent successes have included Oliver! and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Lucy Moran, who plays the original ‘girl next door’ Sandy says: “This is my third show with the RTDA now and I have to say, it’s going to be the best. We have a great cast, an amazing team and the show is definitely worth the watch. See you in August!”

Every week, these talented youngsters from the St Helens area come together to work hard on these incredible productions, whilst having fun, building their confidence and learning performance skills which will take them forward in their future careers.

Rob Hardie, who plays Teen Angel explains how working on Grease has been challenging but fun. He said: “The process of doing Grease has been a hectic one, but I know it’ll pay off with how brilliant the show will be on opening night! The cast and production team are incredibly talented and are definitely welcoming and friendly but also hardworking, making the show as amazing as it will be!”

We know you’ll love taking a trip back to Rydell High as much as the cast have enjoyed creating it!

Mark Porter who plays the original heart-throb Danny Zuko says ‘I can’t wait for the opening night of Grease, it’s such an honor to act alongside such a talented cast, and to work with such knowledgeable singing, acting and dancing directors. It’s really going to be a show to remember for both audience and cast alike.”

So don’t be a ‘drop out’ and get yourself down to The Theatre Royal, St Helens on the August 25, 26 and 27! And as John Lewis who plays Doody says: ‘It’s the best thing you can do on a Summer Night!’
