A ST Helens dance group have been awarded £150 to buy new costumes.

KL Dance, runners-up in this year’s St Helens Got Talent competition, won the grant from Riverside Housing.

Dance instructor Kelly-Louse Birchall said: “Coming from a single parent family, I have first-hand seen the sacrifices my mum went through to help me achieve my goals.

“Now I want to pass on my enthusiasm and experience to the next generation. I am passionate that all children are given equal opportunities, regardless of where they’ve come from or how much their parents’ earn.

“Riverside’s donation will enable us to buy costumes for performances or competition entry fees so we don’t have to put that financial pressure on struggling families.”

Riverside’s neighbourhood housing officer Tanya Marsh added: “Supporting community groups that keep young people off the streets and change negative preconceptions of teenagers is one of the ways we try to reduce anti-social behaviour and the perception of anti-social behaviour.

“KL Dance provides a safe and friendly environment where young people can express themselves through performance, make new friends and build their confidence.

“We have already seen what a talented, hard-working and positive bunch of young people KL Dance is and we hope our donation goes some way to encouraging new members.”

* KL Dance meet on Sundays at Elizabeth Hill School of Dance and Fridays at Spotlight Academy. For more information email KLdance@hotmail.co.uk or call 07974 564162 or 01744 605492.
