Charity bosses at Willowbrook Hospice were ‘bowled over’ by the amount raised at a recent crown green bowling challenge held at The Carr Mill pub in St Helens.
Thirty five regulars from the Starting Gate pub on Chain Lane competed in the knock out bowling challenge which raised £425 for Willowbrook.
The event, organised by Paul Sheeran and Kevin Hill from Laffak, follows on from the success of last year’s competition which raised over £350 for the hospice.
Paul said: “This year, so many of our friends have had loved ones who’ve had cancer or other illnesses or who have received treatment at Willowbrook that we decided to organise another match to try to raise even more money for the hospice.
“The bowlers are a great bunch of people and we’ve had fantastic support from our families and friends. Special thanks in particular to the staff at The Carr Mill for their help and hospitality”.
Starting at noon, the competition was eventually won by Derek Sheeran and Tony Gordon following a close fight off with Dean Ford and Ian McQuade.
Nichola Saunders, head of fundraising at Willowbrook Hospice said “What a lovely way to honour loved ones who are no longer with us. We are very grateful for this kind donation, which will go a long way towards helping the work we do”
