Everton FC stars Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman paid a surprise visit to Whiston Hospital to hand out early Christmas presents on the two children’s wards.
The defensive duo were also happy to pose for photos and chat to patients, parents and hospital staff.
Coleman explained how rewarding it was to see their small gesture go such a long way.
“It’s great for the players to come out and do these things,” said the Republic of Ireland defender. “To put a smile on some kids’ faces - and the parents as well - at this time of year is very special.”
England star Baines added: “Visits like this are always a good thing to do and it puts a perspective on things.
“When you have your own kids, you are touched that bit more when you do see other children and parents in difficult situations because they are the type of position you don’t want to find yourself in.”
