Tributes to 'amazing mum' after Covid death of St Helens Council clerical officer
Tributes have been paid to an ‘amazing, strong and caring’ mum who passed away after testing positive for Covid-19
The family of Liz Roberts paid an emotional tribute to the ‘amazing, strong and caring’ person she was.
Liz worked at Sutton Children’s Centre as a clerical officer but sadly passed away on Thursday, February 25 aged 58 after testing positive for Covid-19.
The die-hard Liverpool FC follower and Saints fan was expecting to become a grandmother for the first time which she was thrilled and excited about. Her family say she wanted to be called Nanny Liz.
Her two sons Mike and Steven and their family said in a statement: “Firstly we as a family would like to thank everyone for their kind words at this time. It has brought us comfort to know how many people held our mum so close to their hearts.
“Hearing her friends’ stories about their memories of her has brought us joy at such a hard time.
“She was an amazing, strong and caring woman who will be so missed by her family. She leaves behind two sons Michael and Steven, mother Patricia, brother Chris, daughters in law Kayley and Simone and her new granddaughter. We love you mum. Always.”
Liz, who had a passion for film and TV which she passed on to her sons, would regularly be found at the cinema watching the latest release. Otherwise the animal lover would spend time with her two dogs at her home in Haydock where she had lived for her entire life.
Liz joined the council in 1990 and worked in a number of clerical teams throughout children’s services and was well loved by her colleagues.
In a statement, Liz’s colleagues said: “Liz was well-respected and loved by everyone within the team. She was a hard worker who always offered support and guidance to anyone who needed it.
"Liz was a great mentor especially to each apprentice, inspiring them with her knowledge that she had gathered over many years of working for the council.
“Liz was such a thoughtful woman and welcomed everyone with open arms. She had a great sense of humour and would always find a way to make each person smile.
"We as a team and service not only gained a remarkable work colleague in Liz but we gained a wonderful friend who will be greatly missed by us all.”
