Businesses of all sizes, including those with fewer than 50 employees, can now order symptom-free (rapid lateral flow) tests for their employees to be done twice a week in the workplace

Businesses can register on the GOV.UK website before 11:59pm on March 31 to take part in the workplace testing scheme, which will remain free until the end of June.

As part of the roadmap to easing lockdown restrictions businesses of all sizes, including those with fewer than 50 employees, can now order symptom-free (rapid lateral flow) tests for their employees to be done twice a week in the workplace.

Around one in three people with coronavirus do not have symptoms, which means they could be spreading the virus in workplaces without knowing.

Rapid testing detects cases quickly – in under 30 minutes – meaning positive coronavirus cases can isolate immediately, breaking chains of transmission.

Sue Forster, Director of Public Health for St Helens Borough Council, said: “Regular workplace testing is a key part of our route back to the things we love.

“I urge all local businesses to register before March 31 and take part in this workplace testing programme, it’s free and really easy to do.

"These rapid tests can help to detect people with coronavirus quickly preventing the virus from entering workplaces and stopping outbreaks before they occur. Testing is vital to support our local businesses to protect their workplaces and employees as lockdown restrictions ease.

“To stop the spread of the virus we must all continue to follow social distancing guidance wherever possible, and remember ‘hands, face, space’ – even if you have already been vaccinated.”

If you do have any coronavirus symptoms – a new, continuous cough, a high temperature, or a loss of sense of smell or taste – self-isolate and book a test online at www.gov.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.
