Covid-19 testing van to visit St Helens
A “Let’s Get Tested” van will visit key locations in St Helens this weekend to bolster efforts to keep Covid-19 rates low and test more people without symptoms in the area.
The mobile testing van will provide residents with free supervised Covid-19 testing or test kits to take home for later use. Lateral flow tests are for people without coronavirus symptoms, they are easy to use and give a result in less than an hour.
One in three people with Covid-19 do not have any symptoms. The move aims to tackle people who may be carrying the virus but have no symptoms.
The rollout of pop-up testing is part of the wider testing programme in the area which already includes a number of symptom-free testing sites. You can also order free lateral flow testing kits to your door on the GOV.UK website.
Testing van locations this weekend are as follows:
· Earlestown Market, Newton-le-Willows on Friday 23 April until 2pm.
· Ruskin Drive, St Helens on Saturday 24 April from 9.30am – 2pm.
· Ruskin Drive, St Helens on Sunday 25 April from 9.30am – 2pm.
Ruth du Plessis, Director of Public Health at St Helens Borough Council, said: “It’s fantastic news coronavirus rates are low in the area, the vaccine programme is working at pace and free lateral flow tests are readily available for everyone, but we cannot let our guard down now.
"As the roadmap progresses and restrictions ease we need to move forward carefully and cautiously by taking part in twice-weekly symptom-free testing, following the guidelines in place and continuing to remember to wash our hands, cover our faces, make space and only meet people in the fresh air.
“I’d urge everyone to take part in symptom-free testing - it’s quick and easy to do and is vital to stop the spread of the virus in our community.”
If you have any coronavirus symptoms - such as a cough, temperature, or a loss or change to your taste or smell – the whole household and you should book a test online and self-isolate.
