The Prince of Wales - later King Edward VIII - visited St Helens to honour Pilkington’s First World War veterans at City Road.

These included distinguished holders of the Victoria Cross Sgt John Molyneux and Cpl John Davies.

The Prince received a rapturous welcome throughout, including a tour of Victoria Park - which had been named after his mother.

The Royal cavalcade then returned to Bishop Road, with scouts, girl guides and members of the public lining the route.

On then to Dentons Green Lane before the pageantry headed for Knowsley Hall, where HRH was a guest of Lord Derby.
